Braelynn Smith is a 5-year-old girl from Prattville, Alabama, with a personality as big as her dreams. She’s full of sass, energy, and all the things that make childhood so precious—Hello Kitty, coloring books, and riding her bike in the warm Alabama sunshine. She loves pizza, princesses, and the color pink. Her life was filled with the simple joys that every child deserves—until the day her world turned upside down.
A Shocking Diagnosis: Battling B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
It all started last November when Braelynn’s parents, Nevvan Smith and her father, noticed something wasn’t right. Braelynn had been feeling increasingly fatigued, and despite her normally vibrant energy, she was sleeping more than usual. After a series of tests, Braelynn was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), a form of blood cancer that affects white blood cells.

The news hit like a storm. For a child so full of life, the idea that her body was fighting such a serious illness was impossible to process. But Braelynn’s spirit was stronger than anyone could have imagined. She was immediately started on delayed intensification therapy, a challenging treatment aimed at aggressively fighting the leukemia. This phase of treatment is known for being particularly hard on the body, and it has taken a toll on Braelynn.
Since starting treatment, Braelynn has faced countless hardships. She developed two viruses during her therapy, which only added to the fatigue and exhaustion that have become part of her daily life. Most days, she sleeps for hours, trying to heal and rebuild her energy. Yet, despite these challenges, Braelynn remains the bright, joyful spirit that has captured the hearts of everyone around her. She’s managed to keep her sassy, positive attitude even as her body fights against the illness.
A Mother’s Strength: Nevvan’s Worry and Hope
For Nevvan, Braelynn’s single mother, the journey has been just as difficult. In addition to caring for Braelynn, Nevvan is also dealing with the heartbreaking diagnosis of testicular cancer in her 2-year-old son, Tylon. Tylon’s battle with cancer is ongoing, and the latest scans for his condition are scheduled for November 20th. Nevvan is anxiously awaiting the results, praying for positive news that could mean a step closer to Tylon’s healing.

With two children battling serious health conditions, Nevvan has found herself juggling hospital visits, doctor’s appointments, and the daily challenges of motherhood. And while her children’s strength is a constant source of inspiration, Nevvan is human—her own heart aches as she watches Braelynn go through such a tough time.
“This latest round of treatment has been hard on Braelynn,” Nevvan says, her voice softening. “She’s lost her hair, which has been really tough for her. It’s been hard for me to see her like this.”
But despite the emotional toll, Nevvan remains a constant pillar of support for Braelynn, holding her hand through every difficult moment. Nevvan finds solace in Braelynn’s resilient spirit—her daughter’s unshakable will to keep fighting, even when the odds feel too great.
The Latest Challenge: An Infection and a Hospital Stay
Just when things seemed like they might stabilize, Braelynn developed an infection that required immediate attention. On a recent Sunday night, as Braelynn’s condition worsened, her family rushed her to Children’s of Alabama for evaluation. The infection was serious enough to warrant concern, but the family remained hopeful that Braelynn could continue her treatment without being hospitalized.

“We’re praying for positive results,” Nevvan said, as she anxiously waited for the medical team to give them answers. “We’re hoping the results don’t require her to be hospitalized.”
Braelynn’s care team at Children’s of Alabama is doing everything they can to support her through these difficult moments, but for Nevvan, the worry never fades. It’s the constant balancing act of managing both her children’s health, her own emotions, and the uncertainties that come with every new treatment and diagnosis. But throughout it all, Nevvan stays hopeful, believing in the strength of her children and the love that binds them together.
Looking Ahead: Maintenance and Hope for the Future
As Braelynn’s treatment continues, the family looks ahead to the next big milestone: the end of Braelynn’s delayed intensification phase and the start of maintenance therapy. “We’re getting closer,” Nevvan says, smiling through the challenges. “In the next month, Braelynn will reach the maintenance phase of her treatment. It will be a big step forward.”

The road ahead is still long—Braelynn will continue taking seven chemo pills a day, and she will need monthly scans to ensure the leukemia stays in remission. But there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, and the family remains hopeful. “She’s so strong,” Nevvan says. “I can see the progress in her every day. There’s no doubt in my mind she’ll make it through.”
In the meantime, Braelynn continues to fight—fighting for her life, for her future, and for the chance to live the childhood she deserves. Her spirit is as bright as it has ever been, and every day, she brings joy to everyone around her, even in the toughest of times.
A Heart Full of Hope: The Future is Bright
Despite the setbacks and the hardships, Braelynn and her family are determined to stay strong. Every step of the way, they are supported by a community of people who care deeply for them—doctors, nurses, friends, and family who have rallied around Braelynn in her battle.
Braelynn’s story is not one of defeat, but one of hope. She may only be 5 years old, but she’s shown the world that even the youngest among us can be incredibly resilient. And with the love and support of her family, there’s no challenge too big for her to face.

As the days go by, the Dudin family remains hopeful for clearer scans, successful treatments, and the chance to see Braelynn live a full, healthy life. Her fight is far from over, but her heart is full of hope, and that is something no disease can take away.
We continue to pray for Braelynn and her family as they walk this difficult road together. With each challenge, they are reminded of their strength and the love that will carry them through to brighter days.
