Maria Eduarda Case – Nurse Recalls Conversation With Young Woman After the Fall: “I Told Her, ‘Duda, Nobody Dies on My Shift’”

In an interview with Record TV, the healthcare professional who tried to save the young woman spoke publicly about the tragedy.

The nurse who provided first aid to Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, 21, has revealed emotional details about the moments following the accident that occurred last Saturday (June 13) at Ponte do Esqueleto (Skeleton Bridge), located between Limeira and Cordeirópolis in the state of São Paulo, Brazil.

Nurse Describes Her Interaction With Maria Eduarda After the Fall

“I scraped up both of my hands because it’s a steep embankment down there, and there’s only a rope for us to climb down. I was completely covered in mud,” the nurse recalled.

When she reached Maria Eduarda, the nurse immediately realized the seriousness of the situation but was able to detect signs of life.

While waiting for rescue teams to arrive, she tried to keep the young woman conscious and spoke to her in an effort to provide comfort and encouragement.

“I told her, ‘Duda, nobody dies on my shift.’ Even though I technically wasn’t on duty there,” the nurse said emotionally.

Despite the efforts to save her, Maria Eduarda succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation Into Maria Eduarda’s Death Continues

The case remains under investigation by Brazil’s Civil Police, who have placed three men responsible for operating the rope-jumping activity under preventive detention.

According to investigators, the men claimed they experienced a “blackout” and could not explain how Maria Eduarda was launched without being connected to the required safety equipment.

Lead investigator Andréa Dantas Levy challenged that explanation, emphasizing that the absence of the safety rope should have been noticed during the mandatory safety checks conducted before the jump.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident and whether negligence contributed to Maria Eduarda’s death.
